The National Carillon and Aspen Island is closed for landscape development until April 2020. A major refurbishment of the the instrument will also happen - with two new bells, new clappers and an upgraded keyboard being installed. There will be no concerts until the National Carillon opens in 2020.
When the island and tower re-open it will be the 50th anniversary of the original dedication in 1970 - with a calendar of special anniversary events.
The National Carillon was a gift of the British Government to the people of Australia in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the National Capital.
